Skin Cancer Awareness Month happens every May, perhaps as a nod to when the hours of sunshine increase and people may have a propensity to be exposed to more ultraviolet rays as a result. Skin cancers are prevalent and the public can take precaution to prevent these illnesses by staying in the shade, wearing sunblock, using wide-brimmed hats, and even donning clothing that contains SPF.
Skin Cancer Awareness Month can inspire people to visit their general practitioners and dermatologists for an annual skin wellness exam. This is the ideal time of year for these medical professionals to educate the public about skin cancer risk and prevention.
