"Sesame Street" Premiere: Anniversary, 1969

"Sesame Street" debuted on public television. It would go on to become a widely popular children's show that educated as well as entertained. Jim Henson provided the puppets for the show, which went on to have their own cult followings, including Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, and later Elmo.
