National Moon Day marks the momentous achievement when man first walked on the moon in 1969. NASA called the even the "single greatest technological achievement of all time." The moon landing occurred on July 22, 1969 when the Apollo 11 carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin who would ultimately traverse the lunar surface. In the command module, pilot, Michael Collins remained alone in orbit until Armstrong and Aldrin returned.
