A day to reflect on the living conditions of human beings and to take action to address the shortcomings to those conditions. World Habitat Day also sheds light on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. The first observance of this day, Oct. 5, 1986, marked the 10th anniversary of the first international conference on the subject.
