UNESCO proclaimed October 5 to be World Teachers’ Day in 1994. This is a celebration of the great step made for teachers on in October 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, in cooperation with the ILO. World Teacher's Day is the ideal opportunity to honor teachers and their contributions to learning, companionship and leadership. Teachers are often the first people to help mold the minds and hearts of children.
While there are many events geared around honoring teachers, World Teacher's Day is one of the most far-reaching and influential. Local businesses can sponsor events at schools, provide lunches for teachers, fund classroom supplies, and even award discounts for the thousands of teachers making differences around the world.
