National Accessible Air Travel Day was established to bring greater awareness about the need for more uniform and dignified access to air travel by those with disabilities. For those with disabilities to travel safely, aircraft accommodations need to be made. Those who rely upon wheelchairs often find air travel is cumbersome, complicated and they fear that expensive equipment may be damaged when it is loaded into the cargo hold.
