TV dinners are convenience items that many people rely upon for fast and tasty meals. C.A. Swanson & Sons is usually credited with being the first to achieve success with the TV Dinner in 1953, and since then they have grown in popularity. Supposedly a surplus of turkey after Thanksgiving dinners as well as noting the way airline meals were served prompted Swanson to package up ingredients into these meals on trays. Original TV Dinners were cooked in the oven, but today's varieties are largely geared to the microwave.
