National Orchid Day is an opportunity to showcase one of the many beautiful flowers people use to decorate their homes, gardens and tables. The event began in 2015 when Mike and Faith Young fell in love with orchids while volunteering at an orchid reserve in San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico. When the couple lost their infant daughter, they wanted to commemorate her memory in a special way — through a special flower. The Youngs raised $1,500 to register National Orchid Day as a national holiday. The holiday soon grew to be a special event for orchid growers and flower shops to promote.
