Video cassette recorders, commonly known as VCRs, revolutionized the movie-watching experience at home. Before VCRs enjoyed their heydays, movies were only broadcast in theaters or on television. VCRs enabled people to not only record content from TV, but to purchase or rent VHS tapes and play them in their VCRs. While VCRs are not nearly as prolific as they were in decades past, some people still have them to watch movies on tape.

National VCR Day is a prime opportunity to educate the public on how they can convert old VHS tapes into content that can be viewed on modern technology. There are a number of service providers who can convert video and photos to flash drives or cloud content.
