December 14th - December 22nd
Chanukah (also spelt Hanukkah), is the Festival of Lights. It is an eight-day celebration for Jewish people commemorating the rededication of the Second Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Lights and oil are important parts of the celebration because it has been written that there was only enough oil to light candles for one night in the temple. However, miraculously the flames remained illuminated for eight days and nights. Chanukah falls during the Hebrew calendar on the 25th day of Kislev. This means it can occur anywhere between the months of November and December.
Chanukah has many traditions. Part of enjoying the holiday includes eating fried foods, lighting the Chanukiah (special Chanukah menorah), and spending time with family and friends.
