Osteoporosis is not a natural part of aging. One in two women and up to one in four men over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis. However, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly can help slow or stop the loss of bone mass and help prevent fractures.
Osteoporosis affects aging men and women but isn't something that should be accepted as part of getting older. National Osteoporosis Month is an opportunity for doctors offices to push for increased testing for osteoporosis through bone density exams and educate the public on how to prevent this condition through diet and exercise.
