Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is produced by the sun and other sources, such as tanning beds. While exposure to sunlight can improve mood and stimulation production of vitamin D in the body, too much time absorbing UV rays can be harmful to the skin and eyes. That is why the month of July is named UV Safety Month. It is a time to learn more about harmful UV radiation, and what steps can be taken to prevent everything from minor sunburns to risk for skin cancers.
