Deaf History Month is an observance of one of the most important anniversaries for deaf Americans: Apr 15, 1817, establishment of the first public school for the deaf in America, later known as The American School for the Deaf. The National Literacy Society of the deaf supports Deaf History month and is promotes deaf culture, books and literacy through programs and exhibits, particularly at public libraries all year long.
