Horses are a symbol of American heritage and prosperity. Although many are treated well and revered, others are not. National Horse Protection Day (also known as World Horse Day (WHD)) was created to raise awareness through public education about the plight of horses in America, which may include abuse, neglect, homelessness and slaughter, and to promote adoption events around the nation on March 1st to help unwanted horses find forever homes.
