"Live Aid" Concerts: Anniversary, 1985

LiveAid was a benefit concert organized by Bob Geldof to raise funds for African famine relief. It was conceived as a follow-on to the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?"The musicians performed without a fee, and nearly $100 million was pledged toward aid to the hungry. Concerts at Philadelphia, PA, and London, England (Kennedy and Wembley stadiums), were seen by 162,000 attendees and an estimated 1.5 billion television viewers. Notable performers included U2, Queen, Paul McCartney, and Roger Daltry in London, and Madonna, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Tina Turner in Philadelphia, PA.
