May
May is Haitian Heritage Month. The celebration is an expansion of Haitian Flag Day held on May 18th, a major patriotic day celebrated in Haiti and by the Haitian Diaspora. Various events are proudly held in its honor, including, parades, cultural activities, ceremonial flag raising, and exhibits.
Haiti is a Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its east. Though it's still recovering from a 2010 earthquake, many of Haiti's landmarks dating to the early 19th century remain intact, and can be interesting starting points when discussing Haitian heritage during this month.
