Fruitcakes have been around for centuries. It has been said that Roman soldiers once carried fruitcakes into battle as a method of sustenance, since the dried fruit and preserved cake lasted a while. Fruitcakes are loved or detested. In fact, there are jokes that there truly is only one fruitcake and it is passed around from person to person. Fruitcakes have long been associated with the holiday season and gifted to friends and loved ones. Whether they are actually eaten, isn't widely known.
